Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has raved about Morgan Gibbs-White after Monday night’s 4-3 victory over Southampton at the City Ground.
The Reds won thanks to two goals from Awoniyi, one from Gibbs-White and a brilliant strike by Danilo.
Awoniyi came of age against the Saints. So often he’s been criticised for his lack of technique and finesse in the penalty area but his brace was a joy to behold.
The striker has now scored seven goals for the Reds in all competitions and he genuinely looks like he cares about doing well for the club.
After the performance against Southampton, Awoniyi has used his time with the media to laud his teammate Gibbs-White.
The Forest striker told Nottinghamshire Live: “He is a special player with what he is doing for the team. He is a fantastic number 10 and he can put in the balls and you just have to be there when they put it in for you.”
Awoniyi checked in from Union Berlin in the summer for a transfer fee close to £18 million.
He’s been a decent player for the Reds and but for an injury that kept him out for three months, he’d have scored even more goals.
Awoniyi raved about Forest star Gibbs-White after Southampton clash
The Saints will be glad to see the back of Awoniyi for a little while given that he’s scored three times against them this season.
As a humble bloke, Awoniyi wasn’t keen to focus on his performance but instead offered praise to Gibbs-White.
The 23-year-old was simply outstanding against Southampton and he gave their defenders the runaround for 90 minutes on Monday.
There is even more to come from the playmaker and hopefully, Forest can remain in the Premier League and the Reds fan base can see him continue to grow as a player.
Both Awoniyi and Gibbs-White are linking up with each other brilliantly and long may that continue.
