Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Chelsea have reached a full agreement with Villarreal for the transfer of Nicolas Jackson.
He took to Twitter to state that the Blues had agreed a fee just above the player’s release clause in order to make the payment in installments.
Jackson emerged as one of the top candidates for a striker to join the club this summer after reports broke in recent weeks that he had been closely monitored.
Goals were a real issue at Stamford Bridge last season, with the likes of Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling not able to find the net as regularly as they would have liked.
The Senegal international impressed in his last few weeks during the La Liga season, even being named the player of the month at the end of the campaign.
Now, he is ready to take his talents to West London, with Romano confirming a deal is in place between the two sides.
Jackson confirmed by Romano
He said: “Excl: Chelsea have finally reached full agreement to sign Nicolas Jackson, here we go! Understand Villarreal accepted Chelsea to pay just bit more than €35m release clause but better payment terms using instalments.
“Medical being scheduled, personal terms agreed.”
Supporters will no doubt be excited that the wheels are now in motion in terms of signing players this summer.
The addition of Jackson follows the finally confirmed acquisition of Christopher Nkunku, from RB Leipzig, which has been widely expected for a number of months now.
Despite the money spent on the 21-year-old, Chelsea supporters will still be hoping this doesn’t signal the end of their interest in firepower this summer.
There will be hopes that they make another move for a recognised talisman, with the likes of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez still mentioned as a potential target.
