I understand that what follows will be greeted with much doubt but after seeing Declan’s reaction to his incredible goal and the Hammers victory s stray thought arose in my mind.
For should we manage to win the Conference semi final and final we would be back in the Europa competition – the third time in three years we have been involved in Uefa competitions.
Should the club then decide to really go for it again in the transfer market and POSSIBLY bring in a manager more associated with a West Ham Way of football a question arises over Declan’s future.
And it is this: Could he decide to stay at the club for a couple of more years?
The rumour is of course that his father/agent Sean is making many moves among agents and clubs as he looks for the move but should the Hammers finish is a far more reasonable position, make Europe and top players are brought in the possibility remains.
Dec’s joy last night was clear to behold and remember these words of his at the end of the game:
“To be captain of West Ham United at 24, I don’t think you get much bigger privileges. So long may it continue and let’s try and have a strong end to the season.
“I am constantly trying to drive this group and we have other leaders as well who are really good at that. Even as a young lad, I am trying to drive this team.
“I think getting to the semi-final of any competition is unbelievable. We have done that tonight and the next step is to get to a final. This Club is craving silverware; so, what a chance this is to win a European competition.
How brilliant would it be to discover that at the end of it all we have our new totally committed Mark Noble!
