Mason Mount has now reiterated his desire to leave Chelsea following another bid from Manchester United.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Mason Mount? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, it is no secret that Erik ten Hag wants the England international at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have just seen an improved bid worth £45m rejected for Mount, with the reliable Romano now sharing more details about the midfielder’s situation.
Speaking on YouTube, the Italian journalist said: “The feeling is still positive around Mason Mount and Manchester United. The player has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, the contract is done.
“Mount’s camp confirmed to Chelsea in recent hours that he is not signing a new deal. This is why Chelsea are moving from £70m asking price to £60m – £65m, as they did with Kai Havertz.”
So, it appears Chelsea have responded to Mount’s request to leave by lowering the asking price, which suggests those at Stamford Bridge are now keen to negotiate the £76,000-a-week man’s exit.
Chelsea look set to do well out of Mason Mount deal
By the sounds of it, Ten Hag is very keen to sign Mount, so we would expect Manchester United to eventually increase their bid to the £60m mark.
Should that happen, it would signal some very impressive business by Chelsea.
Mount – who was recently called “outstanding” by Paul Merson – only has 12 months remaining on his contract, so he would be set to leave for nothing next summer.
Therefore, the fact Chelsea are on the right path to negotiating a £60m sum speaks volumes about how effective those on the recruitment team are when it comes to selling players.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Mount looks set to follow Havertz, Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic out of the exit door at Stamford Bridge.
