‘Best in the world’: James Maddison says £100k-a-week star Leeds want is ‘ridiculously good’

Leicester City star James Maddison has heaped huge praise on Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka after his display in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday – amid recent reports saying Leeds want the English right-back.

Wan-Bissaka, 25, was superb for Manchester United on Sunday as he helped keep Brighton’s danger man Kaoru Mitoma somewhat quiet. One of the best dribblers in England, Mitoma was stifled time after time by Wan-Bissaka.

It was only Wan-Bissaka’s 26th appearance of the season. It sounds like a decent total, but Erik ten Hag’s side played there 54th match of the season on Sunday. Injury and a lack of momentum had earlier stopped Wan-Bissaka.

But he was the subject of praise from none other than Leicester star Maddison on the weekend. The England star praised £50m Wan-Bissaka as one of the best one-on-one defenders in world football, in his ability to make tackles.

Maddison heaps huge praise on Wan-Bissaka amid recent Leeds reports

A 90Min in December said that Leeds were one of a number of clubs considering the defender. His long-term future is in doubt. His contract ends in June 2024, but Manchester United do have an option to extend his deal by a year.

Leeds have options at right-back. Luke Ayling has penned a new deal until June 2024 but his form of late has fallen, and Rasmus Kristensen has started the last two games. But the Dane has also been up and down since joining.

Cody Drameh is shining out on loan but it is expected he will leave Elland Road. Luton, his loan side, are in the play-offs and if promoted, you would expect a move to Kenilworth Road permanently. So, a right-back might be needed.

Wan-Bissaka, who earns £100k a week at Old Trafford, could be targeted. But having earned his place back in ten Hag’s side and impressing, you would suggest his focus will be on signing a new deal – rather than leaving them.
